Here is a very small sampling of Tater and Sprout's accomplishments;
Of course, these ribbons mean absolutely nothing what-so-ever to the boys and represent less than 5% of their over all collection. I just thought the colors looked nice all together. They cost the clubs operating money to buy and although we are indeed proud of them, we stopped keeping the ribbons several years ago. We just donate them back to the hosting club to save them some money. That is unless its from a club that we dont already have one from.

When is my bitch fertile?
Normally it is about 12 days after the bleeding starts, when the bleeding has slowed and thinned to pinkish/clear. The male will know, he will regularly check, lick, analyze in his built-in lab.
If you are taking your dam to the sire the use of a vet is recommendeded unless you can leave her there.
If you are doing artificial insemination or a surgical implant,, on day one call your vet. He will likely have you come in for a smear on days 5,7, & 9 and will do a blood progesterone test on days nine to 11.
Blood test measures in nonamoles and nanograms. It tests her progesterone levels, and lets you know when she drops eggs and when the eggs will ripen.
When the progesterone spikes (normally above 12) means she is ovulating. It is not as accurate, but when she is fully cornified, she is ready to breed.
Puppies are born 63 days from ovulation. Not 63 days from breeding, as the male can breed her several days before, and after ovulation
Fresh sperm live five to 7 days. Chilled sperm last 12-24 hours after insertion. Frozen sperm last 1-2 hours after inserted.
An egg lives five days. But on day one the egg is immature and cannot be penetrated. On day three the egg will be ripe, and this is the best day to inseminate. On day four, eggs are still ripe, and on day five the eggs are dying.

The pictures below are of our kennel facility. We will only board your dog for breeding if you are 100% comfortable with the level of security and comfort for your dog. You will be required to sign a liability waiver stating that you have inspected the kennels and are in full agreement that they are sufficient for the health, security, and welfare of your dog.
STUD SERVICE AGREEMENT
We guarantee a successful breeding of 5 or more puppies. Litters of less than 5 puppies will result in a repeat breeding at no cost to the breeder, provided our stud is still available.
A non-refundable deposit of $100 is due at the time the dam is brought to North Country Kennels and the pick of the litter puppy will be provided with full unlimited registration from AKC at or near 49 days of age. North Country Kennels will certify the litter registration upon receipt of request. .
No boarding fee will be charged for the first 3 days/2 nights that the dam is left at North Country Kennels for breeding. However, a boarding fee of $25 per night will be charged for each night after the initial 2 nights. Many times the owner of the dam will elect to not perform progesterone testing, and will bring the bitch to us early so as to not miss the optimal breeding date, which is acceptable to us. But you must understand that there is a specific window of time that can vary between one dog and another by several days and she will not flag or stand for him and he will not attempt to breed her prior to her ovulating and being in full estrus. Her labia will be very swollen when she is ready. If it is not swollen she is not ready to be bred or is possibly having an abnormal heat cycle.
If the dam is non-receptive to mating, and artificial breeding is not elected by the dam's owner, the deposit fee is retained as compensation for the work and stress placed upon the stud and the added liablitly to North Country Retrievers. This is in addition to any boarding fees, if applicable. For natural breedings we like to get 2 successful ties, depending on the receptiveness of the dam, but only one tie is needed for a successful breeding. This has been proven several times in the recent past where 1 tie produced 10 puppies. So if the timing is right, only 1 tie is necessary, but we will try to accomodate 2 ties if you desire. For natural breedings, the dam must have a negative brucellosis test within the last 30 days.
For any artificial breeding, the owner of the dam is responsible for all associated expenses, including but not limited to; veterinarian visit for drawing of semen, storage, prep for transporting, shipping of semen, travel expense of $25 per trip to our veterinarian.
For pick of litter agreements, the full fee of $100 is due at the time the dam is brought to North Country Kennels for breeding. The breeder agrees that they will register their litters with AKC.
Registration with UKC or any other registry is at the discretion of the dam's owner, at their own expense. However,North Country Kennels does NOT charge any fee for additional registries.
